Walk In Balance

A group of people and their dogs walking in a park on a cold day with snow on the ground and city skyline in the background.

This event was created to provide structured public exposure, promote behavioural advocacy, encourage calm neutrality training, support safer community participation, and create an inclusive environment for dogs of all behavioural backgrounds.

WELCOME TO
WALK IN BALANCE
Walk In Balance is designed to create a judgment-free and structured environment where owners and dogs can practice:
  • calm movement,

  • safer handling,

  • engagement,

  • neutrality,

  • and public confidence.

    Whether your dog is:

    • reactive,

    • nervous,

    • overstimulated,

    • aggressive,

    • inexperienced,

    • needs socialization

    • or behaviourally stable,

you are welcome here when participating responsibly and safely.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Participants should expect:
βœ” Structured walking formation
βœ” Volunteer guidance and support
βœ” Behavioural safety protocols
βœ” Six foot spacing requirements
βœ” Calm redirection exercises when needed
βœ” Support for reactive and behavioural dogs
βœ” Educational and supportive environment

Participants understand that:

  • the beginning of the walk may be the most difficult for behavioural dogs,

  • stimulation levels may initially increase,

  • and many dogs begin to settle as movement and routine become established.

Progress β€” not perfection β€” is the goal.

WHAT WALK IN BALANCE IS

Walk In Balance is:
βœ” Structured exposure
βœ” Behavioural advocacy
βœ” Calm pack movement
βœ” Public confidence building
βœ” Owner education
βœ” Neutrality training
βœ” Safe behavioural participation

WHAT WALK IN BALANCE IS NOT

Walk In Balance is NOT:
✘ A dog park
✘ Uncontrolled socialization
✘ An off-leash event
✘ A dog greeting event
✘ A free-play environment

The goal is calm coexistence and structured movement β€” not forced interaction between dogs.

WHY STRUCTURED EXPOSURE MATTERS

Many behavioural issues develop or worsen through:

  • overstimulation,

  • uncontrolled greetings,

  • negative dog interactions,

  • lack of structure,

  • and stressful public experiences.

Structured exposure helps dogs learn:

  • calmer movement,

  • environmental neutrality,

  • engagement with handlers,

  • emotional regulation,

  • and safer public participation.

Not every dog benefits from uncontrolled dog park environments or high-energy social settings.

Walk In Balance focuses on creating safer and more structured experiences for dogs and owners alike.

  • "This was the first public dog event I’ve ever felt comfortable attending with my reactive dog. The colour bandana system was brilliant and everyone respected boundaries. Such a positive experience!"

    Former Participate

  • "I learned more in one walk than I have from months of trying to figure things out on my own. The explanations about leash handling, dog body language, and energy levels were so helpful."
